School Principals, School Administration, College Faculty, Academic Advisors, and Nursing Education Jobs: Anyone?
School administration jobs. Others included in this class are the school superintendents which supervise the schools within the districts and who are given over all responsibility for hiring teachers and administration personnel, preparation of operating budgets, and the implementation of school policies and regulations. School superintendents are the team leaders who are able to see the "big picture" and bring together all the participants in the effective delivery of educational services by turning them into a cohesive and productive unit.
This administration job, to include all the rest mentioned before it, are indispensable in the performance of the schools’ mission.
Upon examination, it is easy to see that there is always that great chance for an aspiring individual to be able to land any of those administration jobs. This is because of the number of positions available in each locality or district brought about by the increase in enrolment of students and the continuing attrition by retirement and other means.
When private schools are considered, there are a lot more of administration positions available to those who are looking for such jobs. They only must have the required educational qualifications and licenses, say for example, the accountant, to increase their chances of being hired.
School principal jobs. School principals are the school leaders and the top administrators in an elementary, middle or high school, with the school superintendent as the immediate superior, in case of public schools. In the case of private schools, the counterparts of the principals are the headmasters. They have the same responsibilities as the principals with fund raising as an additional activity. There are cases in which the principal and the superintendent are the same person. Whatever they are called, the principals are responsible for the operation of the school as a whole. They are the managers responsible for the financial aspect of the school operations, maintenance of facilities, personnel, PR, discipline, and coordination of the instructional programs and such other matters pertaining to the school.
In some districts, principals are required to have or be eligible for Advance Professional Certificate with Administrator II endorsement. This means that they have at least three years of successful teaching experience and a holder of a master’s degree, and have taken courses beyond their masters.
Because many are retiring from school principal posts, there are always vacancies opening up. The prospective candidates must not only have to perform well on their present jobs but also work toward acquiring the necessary academic and administrative credentials, and the experience required for the job.
Academic advisor jobs. The advisor must always be in close communication with students on a daily basis, coordinating with, and for, them regarding activities within the institution. At the start of the semester, the academic advisor conducts the orientation of new students. Also, the advisor is expected to help current and prospective undergraduate students with academic issues to include program requirements, and in their personal concerns so that appropriate actions by faculty and members of the administration team can be made.
Because within the institution the student population is composed of those coming from diverse backgrounds and cultures, the advisor must possess that sensitivity to their peculiar needs. And in order to know how to deal with them and with their specific problems and issues, the advisor must have a thorough knowledge of the institution’s policies and procedures, the academic requirements, and the campus facilities and other resources and their use. The advisor must also understand student life so as to be able to relate with them and respond to their needs in a timely and appropriate manner.
Within the college or university, there can be one academic advisor per academic department. Usually, a senior academic advisor provides the management, leadership and direction to the advising office and oversees and coordinates the activities of all the academic advisors within the institution.
Within each college or university, there are a number of academic advisor positions available. If a student is interested in the job, he/she must prepare for it even while still a student.
College faculty jobs. Each college, whether community or private, offers more than one associate degree or degree program for the students. Because there are various subjects that comprise the requirements for a student to be able to graduate from a particular program, a number of professors or associate professors teach those subjects, the number depending on the size of the college.
Also there are subjects or course offerings that are only good for one semester or one school year so that hiring a permanent professor is considered unwise. In this case, the college hires visiting professors to teach the particular subjects or courses for the duration of the period specified.
These then are the members of the faculty of the college, working together in their own respective fields of specialty to accomplish the college’s mission of producing the graduates with the academic qualifications they need to be able to land a good job. Usually, to be able to teach, members of the faculty must be a holder of a master’s degree in their chosen fields or better, a doctorate or Phd.
Since there are many community colleges and universities, the probability of one who has the qualifications will be able to land a faculty position is great. Compensation varies according to industry rates, locations and qualification and experience.
Nursing education jobs. Nursing education covers the instruction and training of students of nursing, practical nursing and caregiver courses in the classroom and in clinical situations; and nurses (RNs), LPNs, and caregivers, in the actual work environment. For the undergraduate nursing course, practical nursing and caregiver courses, the nurse educator helps prepare the students both academically and clinically, and for the licensure exams. (Note: Nursing educators employed in nursery schools assist the teachers in teaching the children there.)
In the case of RNs, LPNs and caregivers newly accepted in a medical care institution, the nursing educators handle their training and education to prepare them to assume jobs in the medical care environment.
