Your motor oil should ideally be changed every 3,000 miles to keep your car running in top condition. Not only should you change your motor oil every 3,000 miles, but you should use high quality motor oil and check it regularly to make sure that you don’t have a leak, or that your car isn’t burning oil. If your car gets low on oil or has no oil you can ruin your motor and have to spend a lot of money fixing your car. It’s best to make sure that your car always has motor oil and that you change it frequently to avoid this. Another fluid that you should check regularly is your automatic transmission fluid. If the fluid is brown or has a burnt smell it’s time to change your transmission fluid. If you check your transmission fluid frequently you’re less likely to have problems with your automatic transmission.

 

Your cars Coolant is another very important fluid that you should check frequently. If do not use high grade engine coolant or your car doesn’t have enough coolant it can cause your car to overheat.  This fluid should be a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze, which is more effective in cooling your engine. If your coolant is discoloured or contains particles you should change the fluid. This should be done every two years or so, depending on your car and your driving habits.

If you purchase and use top end brake fluid this is not a common problem you will deal with.  However, it is recommended that you change your brake fluid every couple of years to avoid problems. You should change your brake fluid every time you change your brakes as well.

 

Your windshield washer fluid is not a vital fluid to your cars function, and your car can function without it with no problems. It is, however, necessary to have windshield washer fluid to make sure you have the best visibility possible at all times. If you live somewhere where it is below freezing, it’s a good idea to get a windshield washer fluid with de-icer so that it melts the ice. This way you’ll be sure you’re always driving safe.
